At Tyack Tires Inc., we do our part to keep the community and California GREEN.
California has more registered vehicles than any other state. As a result, more than 40 million reusable and waste tires are generated each year. It is estimated that fewer than 50,000 waste tires remain in stockpiles (not legacy piles) throughout the state. California is faced with the significant challenge of diverting or safely managing these waste tires that are generated each year. These stockpiles pose a potential threat to public health, safety, and the environment.
The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) is mandated to regulate and manage waste tires within the state. The Legislature recognized the need for waste tire management and passed the California Tire Recycling Act in 1989. To further strengthen waste tire management, the Legislature passed Senate Bill (SB) 876 in 2000 to augment the California Tire Recycling Act.
Be sure your damaged or worn tires are properly managed. When you buy new tires, leave the old ones with the dealer, who will see that the tires are reused, recycled, or disposed of properly. If you have old tires around your property, check with your city or county enviromental health office to find out where you can take them. Keep an eye out for local clean-up days. In some communities, there may be free clean-up days, but in others, there may be a charge for picking up your tires.
We are an active Participant of the CalRecycle Waste Tire Management System. Documenting and maintaining accurate manifest records, and assisting our customers with doing the same, is what sets us apart from our competitors.
